James Vos
Alderman James Vos serves as Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, driving initiatives across tourism, trade and investment, property transactions, and strategic assets.
Appointed by the Mayor, he is dedicated to making Cape Town a premier destination to work, visit, and live. With 25 years of public service experience, James has held leadership roles as a Ward Councillor, Member of Parliament, and Shadow Minister of Tourism, making him one of the youngest ever to earn the title of Alderman. His dedication to economic development and civic leadership earned him the prestigious International Merit Award.
As part of the Mayoral Priority Programme, James led the development of Cape Town’s Ease of Doing Business Index, cutting red tape through ten strategic indicators that make it easier for entrepreneurs and
businesses to thrive. He also spearheaded Jobs Connect, an initiative that bridges the gap between job seekers and employment opportunities through targeted training and recruitment.
